Happy biking!

#Posifiets means cycling in a way that makes you happy and doesn't bother anyone else. That includes keeping the pavement free for pedestrians. Some walk behind a pram, use a guide stick or a wheelchair. And with your head in the wind instead of your phone. Are the shops in the city centre open? Then walk. Little things that make the whole of Maastricht enjoy the cycling summer to the max.

Park your bike securely and save money

Park your bike for free at the Markt or under the Vrijthof, Kesselskade and central station (first 24 hours as a gift). That way you'll have earned back your first drink on the terrace. Need to do some quick shopping? There are dozens of bike racks and compartments in the city.  View all racks here:

Cycling rules

Cycling is a fast, environmentally friendly, cheap and healthy way to get to all parts of the city. But you are not allowed to cycle and park your bike everywhere. Good to know when you get on your bike. What rules do you need to know before getting on a bicycle or when you are riding a bike for the first time and want to learn?

General tips

*It is forbidden tot cycle while holding your mobile phone. Talking, messaging or navigating on your bike is dangerous, both for yourself and for other road users. Keep it safe! You risk a fine of 100 euro + 9 euro administration costs.

*Cycling through the pedestrianized shopping area is only allowed from 18 h to 11 h (on shopping nights from 21 h). You risk a fine of 60 euro + 9 euro administration costs.

If you come to Maastricht from abroad, it is not always obvious that you can already cycle. In Maastricht there are 2 organizations that provide cycling lessons for immigrants, expats, status holders and foreign students.
